Today was Meg’s second full time day at day-care. She was happy to be dropped off and went straight to a couple of the other kids and then the books.

When I picked her up at 415pm she had been crying on and off since 330pm. A member of staff at the daycare was reading her a story, Meg sat on the readers lap whimpering softly. When she saw me her face lit up. I think every parent knows that feeling that you get when your child does that. And I’m sure every parent also knows the feeling when your child turns away from you ,annoyed. She wouldn’t look at me until we got into the car-park. Then she saw a turtle shaped garden ornament, she pointed it out to me and started jumping up and down in my arms in her excitement. We played with it for a bit. It’s great being a dad.

今日は、メグの二日目のデイケアでした。朝、メグは、嬉しそうに真っ直ぐ、何人かの子供たちと絵本のほうに向っていきました。他の子供のお迎えが始まる３時半頃から、メグは、泣いたり、泣き止んだりを繰り返していたそうです。４時１５分、私が迎えに行ったとき、デイケアのスタッフが、少し啜り泣きをしているメグを膝の上に座らせ、絵本を読んでくれていました。私を見たメグの顔は、パッと明るくなりました。恐らく、どの親も、我が子がそのような反応をしたときの気持ちが分かると思います。そして、我が子がそっぽをむいているときの気持ちも。メグは、駐車場へ行くまで、私の顔を見ようとはしませんでした。亀の形をした飾り物を見つけたメグは、それを指差し、私の腕の中で上下に興奮しながらジャンプをし始めました。私たちは、そこでしばらく遊んでいました。父親であることは、素晴らしいことです。

クルージーメグ（くつろいでいる/心地よくしているメグ）は、メグのあだ名で、みんなからそう呼ばれているようです。今後、デイケアの時間を少し短めにして、早めに迎えに行くことにしました。

Meg’s got a nickname, “Cruisy Meg!” from the staff. We decided to pick her up earlier from next time.
