Exploring art

Meg has been so busy exploring all the art/craft activities we have this month, she did dandelion dot painting, made the counting beads for the room, growing flower (how tall I am), sunflower observation painting. Each time, you did something new, you would love to show them and talk about what you did, and your mum and dad would take photo of you with your artworks. I love the way mum and dad appreciate your beautiful drawing, painting by taking photos, and I’m sure these are so amazing to record the mile stone of your learning and development.

Meg did a sunflower observation painting this morning – part of the process of drawing the children to the activity is setting up a provocation that is both aesthetically pleasing and inviting, something that makes them want to stroll over and check it out. We put A3 size papers and coordinating colours in the paints for our children. I encouraged Meg to look closely at the colours, textures and shapes and to paint what she saw; it’s really interesting seeing her artist’s eye. She started her painting with picture frames, which was quite interesting to see. Her painting is amazingly close! Meg copied sunflower on her paper when she finished her painting, she then started painting another one for her baby sister Lyn. You developed a sense of enjoyment in painting, you also learnt about colour, texture, and other pre-math concepts. The observation painting activity encouraged your creativity, and helped develop artistic appreciation.

He tino pai tō pikitia.

Your picture is great!

What still life projects are we going to try with our children? Fruit, flowers, sea creatures, vegetables?

How about Cherry Blossom? Spring in Japan can only mean one thing: cherry blossom.
